Following the Crowd

It's better to walk alone, than with a crowd going the wrong direction

I recently had an ant invasion in my house. Lines of ants going after random things, and really ending up nowhere (i.e. no food sources, just an endless search).

As I looked at the line of dead ants I thought about how often we just go along with the crowd. Playing follow the leader assuming that the person in the front knows where we are going.

Going with the crowd will always feel easier. Giving someone else the accountability for all the decisions and the risks.

Leadership will demand that each of us ask not only where we are going when we are in the front of the line, but challenge who we are following.
