You made it through the first week of the new year, congrats!
It’s been a busy start, but as I think back on my word for the year (flow), I have embraced giving myself the space to think and process. We live in a world that moves fast and demands immediate answers and results. Amidst busy workdays, family plans and activities, and to-do lists I have been able to find time to allow myself to think and continue to reflect on what I really want.
A few ways I am keeping space in my day:
Move: I take short walks before my day starts and if I find that I have an extra 15 minutes I take another short walk. I always feel better and more clear after moving and changing my scenery in small ways.
Get creative: At end of day, I try to do something completely different from my work. Maybe write, draw, color, play video games, dream up a movie plot, write a poem, make up a funny song. Have some fun trying new things!
Journal: I talk about this one often, but it’s a great tool. I prefer to journal in the morning, but you can write anytime that works for you. Set a certain length and free-write whatever comes to mind. Try getting this habit going and then go back and read your entries after a month or so. It’s a powerful reflection tool.
So this week, try to find time to think and create some space to process. How are things going? Are you doing what you enjoy? Are you on a path that will take you to the desired destination or maybe you are on autopilot? What small adjustment can you make right now in your day to create a little more space to think and assess?
This is a reminder that this is your life and you have the permission to do with it what you want!
