Craft
"In an era 'plagued' with speed, doggedness of character and drudgery of persistence is the only guarantee to mastery.” - Ufuoma Apoki
I’m fascinated by people who have mastered a craft.
Watching a chocolatier create pieces of art from sugar.
Seeing a carpenter build furniture.
Listening to complex songs from a musician.
Appreciating the intricacies of a seamstress creating wearable art through clothes.
I have seen examples of all these in short, sped up videos. Making what took years to master, fly by in seconds.
What remains true is the patience and persistence it takes to master a craft. Sticking to something through the mundane, arduous process, and all the failures.
When we do something that matters to us it will demand we look inward for our motivation, and avoid the external validation of recognition in someone else’s passing seconds.
