Burn out and how to avoid it
Are you happy with how you spend your time? Have you experienced burn out? Maybe you feel it now. When have you given enough? What sacrifices do you feel like you need to make to be successful?
Burnout is real & shows up differently for everyone. Signs are exhaustion, poor sleep, inefficiency from constant stress & cynicism resulting in a short temper. All can lead to serious health concerns.
"Karashi" is a Japanese term that means death from being overworked.
When the boss role models unhealthy patterns like evening emails, working all weekend, not taking lunch or pushing until they drop can lead the team to burnout.
Working hard for something you don't care about is STRESS. Working hard for something you like and care about is PASSION.
Pay attention when we feel or behave in a way that is not in alignment with our north star. In these moments ask: what can I do in the next moments? What standards am I holding myself to? Burnout IS an optional experience. Make a deposit in yourself.
COVID brought awareness about our why & purpose understanding that work is only a small part of what is most important in life.
Practical tips:
Walk, Meditate, Journal, Yoga, Gratitude: find the habits that work for you
Seek new experiences: be curious to discover new passions
Build your personal board of directors: they can hold you accountable to your goals and support your journey
Make a list of things that help & revisit it when needed
It takes intentional work and time to get clear on what you value in your life, and where you want to be in 5 years. It’s important to invest that time in yourself. What is success to you, beyond the expectations of others? The practical tips and resources here may help you start the journey to start or continue living as your authentic self.
